As a registered charity one of our objectives is to encourage participation in the arts within the local community.  When funds permit, we make grants to organisations for projects that encourage people from all walks of life to take part in and enjoy the arts.  We interpret 'arts' in the widest possible sense.

Recently supported projects have included:

A grant to support the March 2026 Brushstroke Art Exhibition and Sale held at Sudbury Arts Centre. This is a major fundraising event for Success After Stroke, an organisation that provides social support and therapy for its members who are all survivors of stroke living close to Sudbury. Not only does the event showcase artworks created by members but it is also an opportunity for local artists to exhibit and sell their work.

Our grant was used to mount, frame and display the artwork produced by Success After Stroke members created through working with an art therapist. Over 3,000 people attended this nine day biennial event which raised over £20,000, enabling Success After Stroke to continue its support for local stroke survivors.

As part of our remit to encourage participation in the arts, we funded materials for a young local artist, Eleanor Mills, to run a series of free Workshops for pupils at Thomas Gainsborough School.  The pupils learnt techniques of tie dying, fabric printing and applique and thoroughly enjoyed learning these new skills and putting them into practice. Their finished work was exhibited at Mill Tye Gallery last summer, some of which can be seen by clicking here.

We also provided a grant to Tudor Road Primary School to enable pupils to participate in a series of ballet classes provided by the Royal Ballet School via video link. The pupils benefitted from physical activity and coordination and working together as a group.  For many of them it was their first exposure to ballet and classical music.
